Prescott played in the 3A state finals in 2006 and the quarterfinals in 2007. VYPE Arkansas Football Prevew predicts the Curley Wolves finish the job in 2008. Prescott returns most of its starters from last year’s club, including a stable of senior running backs (DeMarcus Collier, BJ Haynie and Calin Hall).

Fountain Lake drops from 4A and has the numbers and talent to compete for the title if coach Tommy Gilleran can find a quarterback to succeed 2007 starter Cody Brashears. Charleston seeks redemption after a 41-13 semifinal home playoff loss to eventual state champion Glen Rose.

Harding Academy promoted assistant Roddy Mote to head coach when Tommy Shomeaker accepted the Central Arkansas Christian job. The Wildcats shouldn’t miss a beat with senior quarterback Matt Lincoln leading the aerial assault. Hoxie lost to Glen Rose 28-0 in the playoff quarterfinals but created momentum during the run that should push them further this season.

1. Prescott — The Curley Wolves played for football and boys’ basketball championships in successive years. They could win titles in both in 2008-09.
2. Fountain Lake — Has only seven playoff appearances in school history.
3. Charleston — Linebackers Erick Stewart and Jordan Akers are one of the better linebacker duos in all classes.
4. Harding Academy — Wildcats made smooth transition from 2A to 3A.
5. Hoxie — Mustangs defensive tackle Derek Johnson, a Texas commit, ranks as the No. 3 recruit in the state.
6. Earle — Depth is a concern, moving from 2A to 3A, but the Bulldogs boast 12 returning starters from last year’s 2A semifinal team.
7. Harrisburg — Hornets’ offense needs to help its standout defense to avenge some of the low-scoring losses from last season.
8. Greenland — With its school district safe, Pirates can focus on contending for 3A-1 title.
9. Rison — Death, taxes and Rison in the football playoffs (32 playoff appearances).
10. Lavaca — Senior running back Steffan Espinoza (more than 2,000 rushing yards last season) must carry Golden Arrows to playoff run.
