Pulaski Academy seniors — quarterback Spencer Keith and receiver Neal Barlow — attract plenty of attention, and rightfully so. But, it’s PA’s line, including seniors Dave Grundfest, Austin Noonan and junior Parker Mack, that make the Bruins VYPE Arkansas Football Preview's preseason favorite. The PA line protected Keith while he passed for more than 4,7000 yards in 2007 and paved the way for running back DJ Daniel (more than 1,400 yards of offense.)

Cross-town Little Rock Christian meets PA in the regular-season finale for the 5A Southwest title with a rematch deep in the playoffs likely. The Warriors shocked the state last fall by finishing undefeated in the 5A West and advancing to the state title game.

Vilonia lost to LRC 21-14 last fall in the playoff semifinals as a No. 4 seed. The expectations are lofty after the improbable run.

Second-year Beebe coach John Shannon guided the Badgers to a playoff appearance and an 8-3 record last fall. He hopes his second season yields at least one playoff win.

Greewnood won its third straight title in 2007. Winning a fourth will be tough without quarterback Tyler Wilson, who signed with Arkansas, and several other key losses.

For more analysis on Arkansas’ 208 high school football teams pick up VYPE Arkansas Football Preview magazine at your local Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble, Hastings or Kroger stores.

1. Pulaski Academy — Bruins’ program racking up points and Division I offers.
2. Little Rock Christian — Junior running back Michael Dyer and senior QB Griffin Kuhn make for a deadly combination for opposing defenses.
3. Vilonia — Coaches’ favorite to win the wild West.
4. Beebe — Dead T offense rolling with senior fullback Sammy Williams (more than 1,2000 yards last fall).
5. Greenwood — Don’t doubt title run as long as Rick Jones (48-8, in four seasons) coaches the Bulldogs.
6. Batesville — Seven wins gives Dave King 100 victories as Pioneer coach.
7. Monticello — Billies’ overachieving youngsters are grown up and eyeing 5A Southeast crown.
8. Harrison — Fifty-one upperclassmen lead a deep playoff run after postseason absence in 2007.
9. Blytheville — Chicks have something to prove after 35-18 first-round upset playoff loss to Vilonia last fall.
10. Central Arkansas Christian — Folks on Mustang Mountain were relieved when former Harding Academy coach Tommy Shoemaker (117-23) took over for successful and popular coach Tim Perry, who took the offensive coordinator job at Harding University.
