Coaches overwhelmingly tabbed Fayetteville to win the 7A West. VYPE Arkansas Football Preview agreed and picked the defending 7A champions to repeat. Senior running back/linebacker Cody Hammer and senior lineman Colby Berna, an Arkansas pledge, lead a talented nucleus. Bulldogs coach Darryl Patton’s biggest chore is finding a quarterback to succeed departed starter Blake McDonald and a talented sophomore, Brandon Allen, is slated to fil his shoes.

Potent running games could fuel a Cabot or Forth Smith Southside title run. Bentonville loses its entire offensive line and single-season rushing leader Anthony Blackmon, but the Tigers’ defense roars with eight returning starters and coaches are confident in who'll take over up front.

For more analysis on Arkansas’ 208 high school football teams pick up the VYPE Arkansas Football Preview magazine at your local Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble, Hastings or Kroger stores.

1. Fayetteville — Won its first state title in 2007.
2. Cabot — The Panthers ended a two-year playoff drought in 2007.
3. Fort Smith Southside — Rebs didn’t make the playoffs after wining 2006 state title.
4. Bentonville — Rugged defense leads the way for Tigers.
5. North Little Rock — Charging Wildcats boast a Division I defensive lineman (Anthony Rogers) for the second straight season.
6. Bryant — Losing senior quarterback Ethan Powell in the spring game was a big blow.
7. Little Rock Catholic — Junior quarterback Taylor Bartlett has a talented receiving corps to pass to.
8. Springdale Har-Ber — Wildcats rely heavily on senior quarterback Zach Faust and Derek Brinker with 18 starters lost from last season’s state title game runner up team.
9. Fort Smith Northside — Senior running back Semaj Edwards’ effectiveness after knee surgery is key.
10. Russellville — Senior running back Kenneth Golden must keep the pressure off inexperienced junior quarterbacks Barrett Hughes and Blake Robinson.
