Springdale senior Ashton Glaser’s final throw of the night earned him the Top Gun Quarterback Challenge title Thursday night at Shiloh Christian’s Champions Field. Glaser led 10 finalists going into the final event - the On the Move target competition. Needing 55 points, he hit the outside of the furthest moving target to score 520 total points to hold off Pine Bluff junior Claude Johnson, who scored 505 points.
“I love the pressure,” Glaser said. “I might have been a little nervous, but I think I play better under pressure.
Johnson jumped past Pulaski Academy’s Spencer Keith (500 points) to take second place with the highest score (80) in the moving target event.
“I hope my name is out there, but if it is not, I will get it out there somehow,” Johnson said. Several SEC schools have already shown interest in Johnson.
Glaser and Johnson earned berths in the national event on July 25 and 26 at Jenks, Okla. Glaser wasn’t in the Top 5 entering Thursday night’s field events.
Springdale Har-Ber senior Zach Faust scored 480 points to take fourth and Warren junior Hayden Smith finished fifth with 455 points. Faust won the accuracy event, the mental event, and the long throw with a toss of 68 yards.
