Jake Gann is a senior at Franklin Academy and currently plays third baseman for the school's baseball team. Jake claims the hardest aspect of his sport is staying focused during a slow-paced game, "in order to stay competitive, you have to be thinking about what is going on all the time, even if the pitcher's throwing a no-hitter," he explained. VYPE thought it would be fun to watch Jake's dad and coach get competitive and see who knows the athlete better in our light-hearted Triple Play.
Raleigh - Durham, NC
When asked what he likes most about playing for Franklin Academy, Jake was quick to explain, "Although it's been tough at times, watching our program and our team grow over the years has been really rewarding, especially this year. I think we're going to have a really good season." ...

When it comes to a topnotch high school athletic career, it's already been a long and eventful run for Cassy Opitz. But it's fair to say the best may be still to come for the Eden Prairie standout cross country and track star, who still has her senior track and field season ahead. Opitz is the defending state champion in the 3200-meter run, was the Class AA state cross country champ last fall and was named the 2008-09 Gatorade Minnesota Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year in January. She has made a verbal commitment to run at the University of Minnesota this coming fall.
St. Paul, MN

Parker Harrell, Catcher for Apex High School, has been playing baseball for the past 12 years, following in his father's footsteps who also played the sport. VYPE caught up with Parker to ask him a few fun questions for this month's Triple Play. We wondered who can guess how he answered: Dad or Apex's Coach Valder?
Raleigh - Durham, NC
Parker says the best thing about playing for Apex is that "the coaches and the community take baseball very seriously." Support like that can come in handy during a tough game or season. Parker explains the hardest thing about baseball is "the mental aspect of the game and trying not to get frustrated. It is a game based on failure and overcoming that can be challenging." ...
