Her junior year she transferred to Shattuck-St. Mary's, a prep school in Faribault, to play hockey and graduated in 1999. Carrie moved to Columbus to play hockey for the Buckeyes at THE Ohio State University and graduated with a Marketing degree from the business school. Carrie stays active in the winter by playing in a women's hockey league and is trying to learn the game of golf this summer. She lives in South Minneapolis with two roommates and her yellow lab Scarlet.
Tom Carothers

Senior Writer

Tom was born March 31, 1973 in the avocado-hued maternity ward of Fairview Southdale Hospital. Within days, he was providing spot coverage of the newborn rattle-throwing contests before making a name for himself with the cutting commentary on Title IX's affect on Park Board TeeBall.
After a high school track career that peaked his sophomore season with a 17th-place sectional finish in the 3200-meter run, Carothers spent his collegiate days at Iowa State University in the early 90's, where he fell in love with Pearl Jam, three-win football teams and flannel shirts.
After spending much of the 90's covering collegiate sports in the Hawkeye State and cursing the rise of boy bands such as NSYNC and Hanson, Carothers returned to the Twin Cities to begin a one-man Sid Hartman impressionist road show.
When that venture failed after an unfortunate cheeseburger-throwing incident at the Lake Inn in South Minneapolis, he returned to his first love, sportswriting, and has been covering the metro high school scene for the past six years — joining the Vype staff as a near-charter member in the fall of 2007, still wearing many of the same flannels he purchased in the early 90's.
