Minneapolis Southwest kept its perfect record intact as the Lakers improved to 15-0 on the season with a 12-3 defeat of Saint Paul Highland Park (8-6) in a non-conference baseball matchup on Thursday evening at Parade Stadium in downtown Minneapolis.
Southwest senior Ellis Poling hurled the first four innings for the victory before classmate Jim Heffernan held off the Scots over the final three innings to ensure the victory. Highland Park starter Chad Washenburger took the loss.
Centerfielder Ethan Green and shortstop John Licht led the Lakers at the plate as each went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in apiece. Both of Green’s hits were doubles.
The Scots will look to bounce back today when they host St. Paul Como Park (6-5), while the Lakers will take the weekend off before they take on Minneapolis South (8-5) on Monday afternoon.
