Athletes of the Week: 4-28-09

Bryce Walt, Minnehaha Academy, baseball The junior catcher/first baseman went 8 for 13, including three doubles, eight RBI and seven runs scored to lead his team to four straight conference wins. He has 10 RBI and six extra base hits in nine games. Katie Wellens, Richfield, softball The senior pitcher led her team to seven straight wins, going 5-0 and throwing 21 consecutive innings to lead Richfield to the Spartan Invitational title. Mikayla Clark, Eden Prairie, lacrosse The senior middy was a big reason the Eagles remained undefeated, scoring eight goals and five assists in wins over Bloomington Kennedy, Eastview and Holy Angels Academy. Eden Prairie won those three games by a combined score of 53-6. Natalie Lansing, Mounds Park Academy, golf The junior compiled three wins last week to lead her team to a 3-0 start in dual matches as she kept her No. 1 Class A ranking. The defending Class A state champ shot a nine-hole score of 42 in a dual win over St. Paul Academy and an 18-hole score of 79 to help her team win the Hill-Murray Invitational.
