Roseville made it four-in-a-row at the State Gymnastics Meet, held Feb. 26-27 in its new setting at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion, by soaring above the Class AA field yet again for the team title. Not to be outshone, the outstate Perham Yellowjackets won the Class A championship for the sixth-straight time. Class AA The Raiders logged a score of 150.30 to out-pace top perennial challenger St. Cloud Tech, who finished second with a 149.174. Northfield came in third with 146.875, Eden Prairie was fourth with a 146.60 and Woodbury took fifth with a 144.80. Roseville's dynamic duo of Anna Gleason and Christy Hammond led their team to victory, with Gleason leading all participants in the team competition Feb. 26 on floor exercise, balance beam and the uneven bars, and Hammond taking the top score on vault. Gleason capped off her high school career with a masterful performance in the individual championships the next night, successfully defending her all-around title with one of the greatest outings in state history that amounted to a total score of 38.875. The senior also won the Class AA title on bars, beam and floor with respective scores of 9.85, 9.75, and 9.70, while Natasha Merrifield of Bloomington Jefferson won the individual Class AA championship on vault with a score of 9.90. Hammond finished as runner-up in the individual all-around standings with a total of 38.65, followed by Elk River/Zimmerman's Jena Jondahl in third (38.125). Jefferson's Alise Post (38.075) edged out teammate Merrifield (38.00) for fourth. Class A Mound-Westonka followed up Perham in the team standings, scoring a 145.30, with Becker finishing third at 144.575, followed by New Prague at 142.175 and Breck/West Lutheran at 141.725. Sabrina Hoover of Rogers took the Class A all-around title with a total of 38.075, just .25 better than runner-up Kelsi Vomacka of Perham. Breck/West Lutheran's Rachel Behmer was third in the all-around with a 37.700. Annandale's Jenna Woelfel took the title on vault (9.675), as Vomacka won on beam (9.625) and teammate Jenna Schmitz earned first on bars (9.725). Carmen Lundell won floor (9.575). Class AA 1.
