Ms. Hockey finalists announced

It's down to five finalists for the 2009 Minnesota Ms. Hockey Award, given to the top senior girls hockey player in the state: Blake forward Margaret Chute, Blake forward Sally Komarek, Hopkins forward Becky Kortum, Andover forward Alex Nelson and Holy Angels defenseman Kelsey Romatoski. The winner of the award will be announced at the Ms. Hockey Awards Banquet at the St. Paul RiverCentre on March 1, the day after the state tournament. The runners up for the award were Eagan defenseman Lisa Berreman, Stillwater forward Callie Dahl, Fergus Falls defenseman Erika Magnusson, Roseau forward Mary Loken and Blaine forward Lauren Zrust. Ms. Hockey 2008 was Bemidji's Sarah Erickson. Criteria taken into consideration for this prestigious award include on-ice talent, academics, community/extracurricular activities, citizenship and coachability. Another award given out at the March banquet is the Senior Goalie of the Year Award, given to the state's top senior goaltender. The finalists for this award are Laura Bellamy of the Duluth Northern Stars, Kaye Collier of Hibbing/Chisholm, Chelsey Froseth of Roseau, Jessica Havel of Grand Rapids/Greenway and Jessica Newstrom of Cambridge-Isanti/Mora/Pine City. The 2008 Senior Goalie of the Year was Eagan's Alyssa Grogan.
