Top of the Hill

St. Paul, MN

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Minneapolis South senior Tayler Hill became the state's all-time leading scorer Tuesday night as the Tigers beat Minneapolis Roosevelt 71-58 in front of approximately 1,200 fans in South's gym. Hill scored 32 points in the game, which gave her 3,701 for her career, seven more points than former record holder Katie Ohm. Ohm, who finished her prep career with 3,694 points for Elgin-Milleville in 2005, was in attendance Tuesday night with her current Gophers coach Pam Borton. Assistant coaches from Texas and Duke were also in attendance. Hill, who is considered one of the top undecided recruits in the nation, has narrowed her list down to Minnesota, Marquette, Duke and Texas. Hill is expected to be named a McDonalds All-American today, and has a good chance to repeat as Metro Player of the Year later this season. A debate remains over exactly how many points Hill has. A couple local statisticians said they have tallied her points since eighth grade and discovered Hill has 3,598 points, 96 short of Ohm's record. However, officials from Minneapolis South stick by their total of 3,701. Hill, who averages 32 points per game, has two regular-season games left and at least one playoff game remaining. Scoring record tied: Minnesota Transitions and Minneapolis Edison clashed Tuesday to produce a two-team total of 235 points (Transitions 129, Edison 106), tying the mark set by Minneapolis Henry's 144-91 win over Red Lake in 2001. Edison senior guard Jonathan Conner scored a game-high 44 points, while junior forward Kevin Noreen scored 35 to lead Transitions.
