An athlete is an individual who participates in a sporting activity. A team is a group of athletes that share a common bond and love for a particular sport. Teamwork encourages an athlete to achieve his/her highest potential, while assisting others to achieve their highest potential through cohesiveness and a common goal. A family is a unit bound together by love and support for one another, while encouraging and supporting individuality amongst its members.
The members of the Schlossmacher family have lived and played sports in the Como/Roseville area since the mid 1960’s. The family name “Schlossmacher” means “Castlemaker.” Robert Schlossmacher and his wife Ann, heads of the Castlemaker family, have supported and encouraged their four children Bob, Jim, Karen and Diane to live healthy, active lifestyles. The four children grew up playing hockey, golf, softball and swimming.
Grandpa Bob was an avid hockey player growing up. He played his high school years as a goalie for the Mechanic Arts High School. Today, he still remains in touch with teammates from that era.
Bob Jr. went on to have two children. Nick, the only male left to carry on the Schlossmacher name, is an avid golfer and was able to share the sport with Grandpa Bob. He also enjoys downhill skiing and beach volleyball. Megan was a statistician for the Roseville High School football team and the boys hockey team when they went to the state tournament in 2003. Megan continues to be active in snow boarding and various outdoor activities. Wife Louise is an avid walker, while Bob Jr. continues to ski the various slopes around the world.
Jim is the father of three girls. Kalie, a gymnast, is one of the co-captains for the Roseville High School gymnastic team and also pole vaults for the Roseville track team in the spring. Sonnie has grown up playing for NSSA Traveling Soccer and Roseville’s traveling basketball team. She currently is a member of both Roseville High School’s soccer and basketball teams. Maddie, the youngest, is an active NSSA soccer player and plays hockey for Roseville.  Maddie is able to follow Grandpa Bob’s footsteps and share in his love and passion for hockey. Jim continues to be active in golf and coaches hockey, while his wife Laurie is a devoted runner.
Karen went on to have twin girls, Adrianna and Michelle, who started synchronized swimming at age 5. The twins have placed first at state and in the Upper North Zones Regional Championships. The girls enjoy swimming with Grandma Ann and hitting golf balls at the golf range with Grandpa Bob. They remain active in diving and NSSA soccer on the offseason. Karen swims in a Masters synchronized swimming group for Minnesota, while husband Lee enjoys bowling and fishing.
The youngest daughter Diane is married to Doug and they live out of state. They are great supporters from afar of their nieces and nephew’s many sporting activities and attend any events they can while in town. Diane and Doug share a passion for traveling and gardening.
Grandpa Bob and Grandma Ann have always put their family first. They have given of themselves to allow their children and grandchildren to be the best that they can be. Bob still enjoys playing rounds of golf and Ann enjoys water aerobics. The love for diverse sporting activities, both team and individual, throughout the years can be credited to Bob and Ann acknowledging the importance of “finding your passion.”
The early years taught the family how to work as a cohesive team both at home and in the sports arena, whatever that arena may be: water, ice, snow, sand, or the green grasses of a golf course. They continue to encourage their grandchildren to seek out those individual sports endeavors that will carry them throughout their adult lives.
