Minneapolis South's Hill reaches scoring milestone

St. Paul, MN

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Minneapolis South's Tayler Hill is part of an elite group to rack up over 3,000 points in her prep basketball career. And to think, her senior year has just begun. The 5-foot-11 senior guard eclipsed the 3,000-point mark Saturday night in a 55-37 loss to Hopkins in the West Bracket championship game of the Pat Paterson Memorial Thanksgiving Tip-Off Tournament at Hamline's Hutton Arena. Hill, who finished with 26 points on a 10-of-29 shooting performance, eclipsed the milestone with 15:07 left in the second half. She had 2,987 points coming into the game. Hill currently ranks fourth on the all-time state scoring list behind former Holy Angels star Susan King, who finished with 3,037 points in 2000. Megan Taylor of Roseau holds the state scoring record with 3,300 points. Hill averaged 22.5 points per game last season for a 30-2 Tigers team that lost in the Class AAAA title game to St. Paul Central (28-4). Central, who won the title for the second straight year, lost 68-56 to Centennial in the East Bracket of the same Thanksgiving tournament. Centennial's senior center Bridget Schuneman scored 23 points and 17 rebounds in the title game and was named the tournament's MVP. Central showed it has some ground to make up after losing four starters from last season, three of whom are playing for NCAA Division I programs.
