Apple Valley shutout rival Eastview
The Apple Valley boys soccer team, ranked No. 1 in the Class AA coaches poll, improved to 7-0 on the season with a 2-0 shutout of crosstown rival Eastview at the Johnny Cake Ridge Soccer Complex on Thursday.
After playing the Lightning to a draw for the first 68-plus minutes of the matchup, the Eagles broke through on a goal by Stephen Johnson following a scrum in front of the Eastview net on a 30-yard free kick from Bijan Jabari.
It wouldn't take nearly as long for Apple Valley to earn a measure of insurance as Alex Schams scored goal No. 2 for the Eagles in the 71st minute to put the game away for good.
The shutout, earned in the nets by goalkeeper Scott Tangen, was the fifth of the season for Eagles. Coach Chuck Scanlon's club will travel to Lakeville North next Tuesday.
