Recent Grads compete at US Junior Track & Field Meet

The Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships were held June 20-21 at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Two of Minnesota's recent state record holders competed and topped their state records. Wayzata's recent graduate Jordan Helgren, Minnesota's title-holder in the triple jump and long jump, placed sixth in the triple jump at the Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships. After setting the state record this year with her jump of 39-3, she pushed herself even farther at the national meet with a final jump of 41-01.75. Zachary Mellon of Buffalo broke the state record in the 800-meter this year with a time of 1:49.60. He improved his time to 1:48.64 at the USATF event which was good enough for second place, just a second behind the winner.
