As we change seasons and prepare for winter to hit us, many Minnesotans strap on the blades and get after the state’s biggest sport (hockey) but there are also other sports that we will be covering. In this, our second issue, we feature the Roseville gymnastics team, currently rated number one in the country, on our cover. This is a sport that doesn’t get much coverage and it is long overdue.
We look back on the legacy of Hill-Murray boys hockey and the long road back for Highland Park girls basketball. In our other features, we cover what it takes to form a marching band from scratch at Woodbury High School and there’s a new line of high powered girls hockey in North St. Paul.
We also preview some of the areas boys and girls basketball teams as well as wrestling.
It is our goal not only to cover the mainstream sports but to also get out and cover those that sometimes seem to get overshadowed. Don’t get me wrong, we will be at the hockey arenas too but this is not a magazine dedicated to any one sport. There are far more kids that play the other sports at the high school level and we feel they deserve the coverage as well. If we missed your school, please feel free to write and tell us about it or write the story yourself and submit it to editor.stpaul@hsstm.com, and please keep sending in those photos because we can’t be everywhere.
