John Wall's recruiting process is over. He has ended the suspense by picking the University of Kentucky as his college of choice.
The 6'4", 184-pound Word of God Academy point guard made his decision May 18.
At a press conference on May 20, Wall cited his relationship with new Wildcats coach John Calipari as his motivation to choose UK over nearly a dozen rivals for his commitment.
"It has been a very difficult process, but I have chosen to attend the University of Kentucky," he said. "I wanted to go to a school where I could compete for a national championship, but I also wanted to go to a school that would fit me academically."
Before ultimately choosing UK, Wall noted he had narrowed his choices to Florida, Miami and Duke.
He thanked his coaches and his family for their advice and reported that the final decision was his own.
He acknowledged the process was demanding and draining. He routinely received three phone calls a day from coaches, scouts and the media, and sometimes those daily calls spiked to five a day.
"In the beginning I loved it (the attention), but over the last couple of months was tough. I am relieved the process is over," he said.
His mother is happy too.
"The last couple of months have been stressful for me and for her," Wall said.
He addressed his charge of breaking and entering last month, and wants to move on.
"It was a big mistake. I have said I am sorry to my family and my school, and I am trying to put it behind me," he said.
Wall has been the most highly recruited high school athlete the Triangle has seen in a long time. The top ranked point guard must now go on to prove why.
