The home plate mostly did not get crossed at Athens Drive High School on April 17, when Tri-8 Conference leader Green Hope held on until the end to beat the Jaguars 2-1. This mostly defensive match-up finally went to Green Hope pitcher Adam Boghosian, who struck out four Athens batters, allowed five hits, and allowed just one walk. Athens Drive pitcher Blair Batts, who struck out seven, allowed five hits, and walked four batters, absorbed the loss. Green Hope led the scoring through the first half of the game, but Athens scored in the fourth for a tie. Green Hope went ahead after Grant Shambley crossed the plate in a close call. Athens had a last-inning chance to tie the game again, or go ahead, but with bases loaded and two outs, a ground ball led to the final out and ended the game. Green Hope is undefeated in conference play and holds a 13-2 over all record. Impact Sports has ranked the Green Hope team number seven in the state.
