APEX — Middle Creek has had one of the top teams in the Triangle area for the last few seasons, and this season to future Division-I players have started to set records. Weeks after Tom Tankelewicz tied the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational record for most 3-pointers in a tournament, Tankelewicz broke the school record for most points scored in a single game. Middle Creek played Fuquay-Varina on Jan. 6, and the Mustangs left with a 79-45 victory over the Bengals. Tankelewicz scored 37 of the Mustangs' 79-points, including 29 in the first half. The future Charleston Southern player broke the school record with his performance, previously held by Marcus Kitts. Kitts now plays at William & Mary. Garrius Adams scored 19-points in Middle Creek's game against Millbrook on Jan. 5, breaking the school's all-time record for most points scored in a career. The 19-points gave Adams 1,343-points for his career. Adams scored 24-points against Fuquay-Varina, giving him a career total of 1,367-points. Middle Creek still has ten regular season games, the Tri-Eight tournament, and the state tournament left. Averaging 23-points per game, it is not out of the question that Adams could reach the 2,000-point threshold if Middle Creek can make a postseason run.
