A Player of the Week First

Raleigh Durham, NC

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Normally we give player of the week to an offensive guy. Not because we don't like defense. In fact, I'm a defensive nut. It takes special players to be good at defense. It takes a swagger, attitude, and a focus to put fear in your opponent. You'll find a few defensive players crazy enough to wear Under Armor and grease when it's below freezing. Today our Player or should I say Players of the Week is the Wake Forest-Rolesville defensive line. #82 Brandon Reynolds, #91 Jack Kahut, #83 Tim McGuirre, and #56 Christian Wood. The front 4 for the Cougars help hold Leesville Road, a team that normally averages 30 points a game to only 7 points. Leesville came into the game rushing for over 200 yards in 5 different games throughout the year. The only game that The Pride lost came when they were held to 56 yards rushing. The Cougars did one better. Actually it was 3 better. The Vype players of the week(Wake Forest D-line) controlled the line of scrimmage all game and held Leesville Rd to only 53 yards rushing(WRAL stats). The play of Reynolds, Kahut, McGuirre, and Wood allowed Wake Forest to gamble on defense in key situations and freed up a defender to drop back in pass coverage. Wake Forest will need that type of play from the front 4 again in the 1st round of the state playoffs as they take on Durham Jordan. Jordan brings in UNC bound tailback Jerrell Rhodes. (Revision)The defensive line also includes #92 Keaton Epps. His name being omitted from the list was strictly a clerical error on my part. Hats off to Keaton as well, the pictures clearly show his part in the effort put forth against Leesville.

Would some one at Vype be so kind as to at least name WFR's best defensive linemen and 3 year varsity starter in this article, #92 Keaton Epps. He is in both of your pictures. No offense meant, but it would be nice if he got his due. Thank you!
