Triangle Conference Breakdowns After Week 4

Raleigh Durham, NC

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

After week 4 the Greater Neuse conference play start this Friday, but everyone else still has 1 week of non-conference play. PAC6 Hillside, East Chapel Hill, and Southern all had bye weeks, which makes the PAC6 hard to judge this week. Jordan handled business against Knightdale, Northern Durham was trounced by Millbrook. You can never really judge the PAC6 until playoff time because of the varying opponents that the teams play. As long as the top of the conference does well they are always a threat in playoff time. Remember that the PAC6 has had someone in the Eastern finals or Championship game the last 2 out of 3 years. TRI8 With 2 of their best teams on a bye week the TRI8 only won 1 game this week. This has been a reoccurring theme this year as the TRI8 only has 2 teams with winning records. They will try to bring some respect back to the conference this week as every TRI8 team(not on a bye) is matched against a CAP7 opponent. Those matchup will not be easy as they are Millbrook(undefeated), Broughton, Leesville Rd(undefeated), and Sanderson. CAP7 Once again the CAP7 flexed its muscles around the Triangle. They went undefeated as a conference for the 2nd time in 4 weeks of play. The biggest statement for the CAP7 was Wakefield defeating Garner in a wild one. No matter what happens in week 5 the CAP7 will be labeled the toughest conference in the Triangle. It would take a bunch of 1st and 2nd round playoff losses to take that title from them this year. They currently have 2 undefeated teams in the conference. Greater Neuse Greater Neuse starts conference play this week. With Garner not being as dominate as usual the conference gets a "B-" stacked up against the rest of the Triangle. West Johnston plays most of its non-conference close to home which makes them hard to evaluate, but they seem to be the conference favorite along with Smithfield Selma. With the CAP7 all but having the title of toughest conference wrapped up it will be on to more important matters like conference champions. While the TRI8 is having a tough time it wont diminish the joy of winning the title for who ever comes out on top.
