About Our Cover: February 2010

VYPE Magazine dominated Cary High School’s wrestling gym and photographed a group of the state’s top wrestlers where the mythological Atlas meets Beach Blanket Bingo. Most of our cover models have at least one state championship under their belts, and more than one is undefeated so far this season. While the guys definitely were out of their comfort zone, they took the lights, cameras and action in good stride. While they most often face each other on opposite sides of the mat, they are good friends outside the gym and clowned around like a group of fraternity brothers. Our cover athletes are Matthew Williams, Cardinal Gibbons High School; Adam Tassitino, Sanderson High School; Matt Colvard, Cary High School; Chris Johnson, Orange High School; Ben Creed, Cary High School; and Tyrone Eatmon, Riverside High School. Our photographer is Ben McKeown, a freelance photographer who lives and works in Raleigh. His studio is Organic Exposure. McKeown is a graduate of Wakefield High School, where he played football under Coach Steve Rivers. Thanks to Coach Jerry Winterton and Cary High School for allowing us to shoot our cover photo there.
