Racing series at halfway point

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Racers have reached the halfway point in the Guam International Raceway Motorcycle and ATV Corporation's ten-round Guam Motocross Championships.

Round five of the championships was held Sunday at the Jose and Hermenia Calvo Memorial Off-Road Park's motocross track within the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. The Guam Road Racers Association and Drag Racing Association of Guam held events of their own as well.

First to the starting line were the racers in the Kids' ATV Class with eight eager riders geared up for the race.

Aguon In The Lead

In the 90cc Kids' ATV Class, Dylan Aguon, back in action after a short break, took a decisive lead and rolled to victory over Cameron Stalling, who placed second. Both riders were aboard DRX 90s.

In the 70cc Kids' ATV Class, Gabriel Munoz launched straight to the front of the class to put enough distance on his nearest competitor to eventually take the win.

Placing second in the class was Jose Simpson on a DRX, followed by Raven Girgan aboard her Polaris ATV. Deaven Aguon, on a DRX, placed fourth.

In the 50cc Kids' ATV Class, Gavin Stalling rode his DRX to a win over Derin Aguon.

Racing in the Open ATV Class, Cycles Plus rider Robert Bucek, aboard a Suzuki LTR 450, took the lead from Suzuki-mounted Dave Demarest after the first lap.

Following several miscue flips by some of the other riders, Bucek went on to take the win. Keara Bucek, racing a Yamaha YFZ 450, placed second. Coming in third was Suzuki-mounted Dave Demarest, followed by fourth-place finisher Karl Fukuda aboard his Suzuki LTR 450.

In the 85cc Class, a battle for the lead took place before the Kawasaki-mounted rider JR Cepeda took the win over Suzuki-mounted Frank Vawter Jr. Coming in third was Ricco Pereira.

Tarnate Takes The Win

In the Open Motorcycle/250/Vet Class, Tom Tarnate and his Kawasaki took the win over good friend and racing buddy George Gogue.

Next up is round five of the Supermoto Series starting noon July 26 on the main parking lot of the Guam International Raceway.
