2008 HSSTM National Tour. I put "Gulliver" to shame.

Saturday, March 1, 2008

Wow! How quickly we have grown in two year. We currently produce 10 HSSTM magazines every month in ten different markets. Those markets include. Eastern Oklahoma, Central Oklahoma (OKC), Western Arkansas, Central Kansas (Wichita), Central Indiana (Indianapolis), Greater Reading (Pennsylvania), Greater St. Paul (Minnesota), Collin County (Dallas), Tarrant County (Ft. Worth), and Greater Louisville (Kentucky). With this, I was called upon to do a little traveling and visit all of our wonderful markets. Did a say a little travel? How about a lot. I put "Gulliver" to shame. All this for the magazine that we all love and for the expansion of the HSSTM empire. It has truly been a fantastic experience. And you know what I found? There are some other locations outside of our Eastern Oklahoma bubble that are pretty competitive in high school sports. I've had the opportunity to see athletes all over the country doing some pretty phenomenal stuff. Where to start? How about St. Paul, MN. I can say that I personally experienced the coldest day of my life. The high on January 24th was "One" degree. I stepped outside my hotel at 8 AM to spend the day with the St. Paul publisher and instantly froze because the temperature was -17 degrees farenhiet. Needless to say that they was the cold weather for their most popular sport. Hockey. You would not believe how many out door rinks and the level of craziness that hockey fans in Minnesota have. Next are the Hoosiers from Indiana. You know what they do in Indiana? They play basketball. A ton of basketball. Though the days of the open statewide tournament that distinguished Indiana from all others are over, the state is born and bread on the hardwood. Especially this time of year. Plus, the new dome that is being built is literally twice the size of the RCA Dome. Reading, PA is located in Birks County, just outside of Philadelphia. It truly has a Victorian style and feel. Great football and Hockey. Plus I found a great restaurant called "Austin's". Wichita, needless to say, is the home of NFL great Barry Sanders. They do just about everything in Kansas. Obviously basketball is huge, but some of the best 2008 football recruits in the country are from Wichita. And the Shockers of Wichita State still have a football stadium. They haven't played football in decades. Louisville is on schedule to launch this month. Such a great sports town. Home of Muhammad Ali. By the way, if you have never been to Churchill Downs, then you are missing out. Especially during the Kentucky Derby. Collin County and Tarrant County are doing a fantastic job in the coveted Dallas-Ft. Worth area. We all know the level of talent that, in all sports, come from Texas. It can be considered as the Mecca for high school football. Dallas is also the home of my sister Amanda, brother Chris, his wife Shaina, and their baby Ava, who is the pride and joy of the Chadwick Clan. Then there are the three markets of Western Arkansas, Central Oklahoma, and Eastern Oklahoma. These are characteristically balanced in the world of sports with a heavy emphasis on football. Plus it is the greatest place in the country to live. I've seen it all in the last 10 weeks and it is good to be back in the great city of Tulsa. I will be here for a while and I am so glad that there will be a little time before I travel again. So there is a quick look at the different markets of High School Sports The Magazine. We are truly indebted to you the readers for making this such a great concept. I encourage everyone to send me an email and let me know what you think.
