Holland Hall Dutch Win SPC Soccer Championship

The SPC soccer tournament was held in Houston this year and Holland Hall was one of the favorites coming into the tournament. Holland Hall’s record was 10-0-1 in SPC play, including 10 consecutive wins in conference play, but the team fell behind in each match, only to battle back and win. In the quarterfinal, the Dutch fell behind Houston Kinkaid 3-1 in the second half before scoring the equalizer late in the second half and another goal in the first overtime for a 4-3 win. In the semifinal, an early goal by Houston St. John's was answered by a goal in each half during a 2-1 win. In the conference final, Dallas St. Mark's scored an early goal and a second goal with 17 minutes remaining in the match. The Dutch scored with 8:51 remaining to get within a goal and scored again 4 minutes later. With no goals in two, ten-minute overtime periods the teams went to penalty shots, which Holland Hall won in dramatic fashion, 3-1. The win marked the first time Holland Hall was crowned champion in 15 years. The last championship was February 1993. The team finished with an overall record of 20-1-2. The Dutch also defeated conference rival Dallas St. Mark’s three times during the course of the season and beat in-state rival OKC Casady twice. 
 Individual stars include junior forward Jon Wright (16 goals, 6 assists), senior forward Andrew Sprouse (14 goals, 5 assists), junior midfielder Sid Stewart (8 goals, 11 assists), junior defender/midfielder Denny Mask (4 goals, 4 assists), and senior midfielder Patrick O'Sullivan (5 goals).
