Transformation Through Understanding and Action

Understanding could be viewed as an extension of knowledge. Understanding allows you to share the knowledge you have acquired for synergistic results. Understanding is vital to leadership ability to develop synergistic results. As the famous saying goes "seek first to understand, before you are understood", speaks volume in creating synergistic results. The Synergistic leader understands the value of people and resources, such as technology, location, community, and political influence. The Synergistic leader focus is on the how to and doing with the personnel and resources available. The Synergistic leader makes sure that team members are in the right position on the team, so they can self actualize, otherwise their performance could be at an inefficient level. In this case, synergy could be minimal. The Synergistic leader understands that in order to get optimal results, you have to put team members in the right places. Individuals who move through the process of gaining understanding of situations before making decisions will be sound in their approach. Understanding is procured by individuals who have the knowledge necessary to execute their task, but needs to understand the dynamics before they can effect change. In order to gain synergistic results, leaders should be able be analyze, remain objective, separate and connect ambiguous material, classify, arrange, select, infer and explain a variety of issues. Understanding will contribute to your ability to make sound decisions. During the time I was developing my organization, there were many things that I needed to understand before the company could experience the desired results. I can recall the publication of my first book; I had a website created to improve the sales of the book, but the website was designed to generate other types of business for the company. Well, we did not experience success initially because of minimum understanding on how the process worked. One of my mentors told me an expensive education in learning from our failures, is a valuable way to gain understanding. In addition to gaining understanding, I also understood the career path that would provide me the best opportunity for synergistic results. It took me a few years to get to that point, but when I understood the dynamics of the industry, my ability to make decisions was done in confidence. There was no fear in my approach to address tough projects because I understood how to prepare for them. A prominent NFL quarterback from the Indianapolis Colts was asked how he handles pressure. He replied "you only experience pressure when you are not prepared and understand a situation." This concludes the four part series on the theme "Synergistic Leadership" my hope is that you grew form this series and begin to create synergy in your area of operations or interest.
