Monday, February 9, 2009

Although there are some major football recruits for the 2009 recruiting season still undecided.Sand Springs junior quarterback Johnny Deaton made his commitment to play college football at Oklahoma State University. Deaton made the announcement Sunday night on KTUL's You Make The Call with Ruben Diaz. Deaton said following his announcement that he plans on graduating early next December and enrolling at Oklahoma State so he can get in for spring practice in 2010. National Signing Day was February 4th less than a week ago but for Deaton it was a matter of getting this out of the way as the number of college coaches calling was increasing this past week. With his commitment, Deaton is the first verbal commit for Mike Gundy and the Cowboys for the 2010 list. Deaton is a 6'2", 185 lbs dual-threat quarterback that rushed for 1,665 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also threw for 1,874 yards and 11 touchdown passes for the Sand Springs Sandites as they made the playoffs but lost to eventual state champion Union and finished with a 6-5 record.

Yeah it's a great fit. With the offense they have ran recently with Zac Robinson it fits Deaton's style of play. I was really impressed with his play against Claremore this past season. Strong arm and great run threat. I think Ron Lancaster on his coaches show following the Tigers game against the Sandites. When talking about Deaton he said Deaton was one of the best players in this area.

I think this is a great pick up for both Deaton and OSU! Great story.
