Every year we like to look back and remember some of the top stories that made what was a great year in sports. The Chase for the Title - Rotnei Clarke and Keiton Paige chased a twenty year old scoring record held by Ty Harmon of Maud. Clarke captured the title and both carried their team's to state titles in basketball. 2. Bishop McGuinness Wins 8 - The Fighting Irish won 8 state titles and the boys won the triple crown; football, basketball and baseball. 3. Broken Arrow Snaps Streak - The Tigers finally get over the hump and beat Union in football. After 20 plus years the Tigers get a huge win to open the season. 4. Owasso Baseball #1 in Nation - The Rams climbed to the top of the mountain and became the nation's number 1 baseball team. They also brought home another state title. 5. Booker T. Washington Girls Win First Title - The Lady Hornets won their first ever title in girls basketball. 6. Back-to-Back Undefeated Seasons - Cascia Hall proved it didn't matter what Class they played in, they were going to be the best. First in Class 2A then in 3A, the Commandos have won 28 straight games. 7. East Side Sweep - The 2008 football season witnessed an incredible run of titles to East side teams. 6A-Union, 5A-Booker T. Washington, 4A-Glenpool and 3A-Cascia Hall. 8. Moore Girls go Undefeated in Fast pitch and Slow pitch - The Moore girls softball team dominated softball winning every game in both fast and slow pitch. 9. Memorial Boys Win 6A - Coach Savage and the Chargers basketball team were underdogs, but won the Class 6A crown. 10. Union Girls go Undefeated - The Lady Redskins go a perfect 27-0 in basketball. 11. Catoosa Dominates - Dallas Bailey and Ryan Rosales help Catoosa to a state title in wrestling and end El Reno's run. Bailey is going for his fourth state title and Rosales his third in 09. 12. Freshman Runner Bursts onto the Scene - Jenks freshman Paige Barnes won a state title in cross country and surprised everyone. 13. Glenpool's D - The Glenpool defense only allowed 13 points in 10 games. Amazing. 14. Bishop Kelley Volleyball - The Lady Comets won another state title in volleyball and coach Wadsworth was named Coach of the Year. 15. Five Players From Green Country Drafted into MLB - Five local players were drafted by Major League baseball teams. Nick Farnsworth-Union, Bobby Bundy-Sperry, Mark Ginther-Jenks, Dallas Beeler-Jenks, Big Flynn-Owasso. 16. Checotah Turnaround - Checotah made a run at a state title in 2008 after a less than stellar year in 07. 17. David Gordon Shines Like Gold - The East Central track star brings home four gold medals at the state track meet. i'll agree hoops point chase was #1...but don't forget about Shattuck's 6 straight football championships and now THE #1 high school football team in the nation as the Indians currently have won 81 consecutive football games.
