Dribbling Siblings

Monday, December 1, 2008

Will and Luke Bryant are a coach's dream. Committed, focused, and hard-working were all characteristics used by their coach Brian Rahilly when describing them. "These are the kind of guys that you just love to coach," said Rahilly. "They are just trying to be the best they can be at whatever they are doing." Both of the standout Cascia Hall student-athletes manage to do a great job of balancing their responsibilities on and off the basketball court. Will, a 6-foot-5 senior guard for the Commandos, is the oldest. He is a defensive standout who can also shoot the ball with ease. He averaged 10 points per game his junior season to go along with his 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game. While those are impressive stats, an even more imposing number would be his 4.35 GPA or his 31 he scored on the ACT. This summer Will attended the Academic All-American basketball camp at Brandeis. With his all around astonishing high school performance, he is drawing major attention from many prestigious colleges including Navy, Air Force, Davidson, Marquette, MIT and Elon. Not to be outdone by his older brother, little brother Luke also excels in all areas of high school. The 6-foot-1 junior guard impresses his coach with his intangibles. "He may not be as much as a physical presence as his brother but he has just as much determination and focus as Will and that's the reason he is so successful." said Rahilly. Luke is racking up the academic honors as well and is rapidly becoming an outstanding basketball player. While most people know about their scholastic and athletic accomplishments, many may not realize what other passion they both possess. Will and Luke love music. They even have their own music room at their home. Will likes to play the guitar, while Luke prefers the drums. "I know that both of them love music and they like to have jam sessions at their house whenever they can." said Rahilly. Although the brothers enjoy spending time with one another they also maintain their own personal time. Both are described as quiet and reserved by their coach. "They are just your normal, average guys," said Rahilly. "The thing that makes them great is their ability to focus on what needs to be done and then they get it done." Although the brothers may be quiet most of the time at school coach Rahilly does find some humor with the usually very business-like teenagers. "I always laugh because they only live a few blocks away from the school but they always take separate cars," said Rahilly with a chuckle. "But I guess they do go their own thing after school." Coach Rahilly is very experienced with sibling teammates. He played with his brother in high school and knows how special of an experience it can be for the boys. "It truly is a blessing to get to share this type of thing with a family member," said Rahilly. Will and Luke will get to work together one more year on the floor. They are a part of a Cascia Hall Commando team that is favored by many to win the class 4A title. Surely, we will get see a little bit more emotion from the duo if they are able hoist the gold ball at the end of the year. One thing is for certain with Will and Luke Bryant. The sky is the limit.
