Putnam City senior basketball player Xavier Henry was involved in a car crash Wednesday, according to The Oklahoman. Pirates coach A.D. Burtschi characterized the accident as minor. Barbara Henry would not elaborate on her son's injuries. "I'd rather not say right now," she said. Henry was driving a vehicleoccupied by three other Putnam City students Wednesday afternoon. The students were on their way to an elementary school as part of a leadership program, Burtschi said. "Anytime you hear about something like this it's alarming," Burtschi said. "We're concerned for him as a person right now." Burtschi visited Henry briefly following the accident. The Pirates practicedWednesday without Henry, ranked by many as the top player in the nation in the class of 2009. Henry was the only student involved in the accident taken to the hospital, Burtschi said. Henry's older brother, C.J., who's a freshman on the Memphis basketball team after playing minor league baseball for several years, reportedly left the Tigers practice"in a hurry" Wednesday, reported Dan Wolken of the Memphis Commercial Appeal. Wolken reported that C.J. Henry was headed back to Oklahoma City to be with his brother. C.J. Henry is out for a few weeks after undergoing surgery on his left foot. Xavier Henry is deciding between Memphis and Kansas. He attended Kansas' first basketball practice of the season last week.
