Westmoore High School competed with bands from Goddard, KS; Midwest City; Yukon; Randall HS, Amarillo, TX; Duncan, Mustang, Edmond Memorial, Edmond Santa Fe, Shawnee, Ponca City, Bethany, Guthrie, Piedmont, Lawton MacArthur, Harrah, and Southmoore at the Putnam City Marching Classic on 28 September. In the preliminary competition the Jaguars won the Caption Awards for Class 6A - Best Music and Best Visuals. The 110 member band and color guard performed their show, Divergence, a second time Saturday evening in the finals competition and carried off the prized hardware. Second place went to Mustang High School and third place to Randall HS of Amarillo. Our sister band, the Southmoore High School Sabre Cats, took home ninth place in their first ever competition!

It was a very hot day late in September as the marching band season began. The bands were all in full dress uniforms, gauntlets, gloves, and feathered caps. The color guard sparkled with their new outfits and silvery sashes while performing with flags, rifles and sabres. Gallons of water were consumed at the physical and music warmup stations. The bands rehearsed in sections: guard, woodwinds, brass, battery and pit. Then they formed up together to march onto the field in all their finery. A 15 minute performance culminated thousands of hours of practice as the bands have been working on these shows since before school started in August.

The evening closed with a massing of the drumlines on the 50 yard line and the beat caused an adrenaline rush as the bands all marched in and completely covered the football field to receive their awards.

The band recently competed at the Bands of America(BOA) Regional Competition in Arlington TX on 4 Oct and will travel to St Louis over the fall break for the BOA Super Regional Competition in St Louis on 18 Oct. The Oklahoma Bandmasters Association competition is in Tulsa on 25 October. By that time the band will have put in over 50,000 hours fine tuning their performance.

Marching Band Competitions always conclude with the massing of all bands on the field.  The 1500 members of these bands take great pride in their drumlines who beat the cadence to bring them onto the field.
