Broken Arrow Takes Top Spot

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

For the first time in years the Broken Arrow Tigers are ranked #1 in Class 6A going into district play. The Tigers started the season with a win over Union that ended a 22 year streak of defeats. Then the Tigers took care of the Owasso Rams and went on the road to play Booker T. Washington at S.E. Williams stadium. In that game the Tigers got off to a great start thanks in part to the running of Steven Hopper. The offensive line has been a huge positive with Alvin Bailey (6-5, 330) and Aaron Kannard (6-3, 275) on the left side of the ball. The defense has been nothing but stellar. Sam Mosses (6-2, 235) and J.T. Goins have gotten off to great starts. Now the Tigers enter district play and on tap first is Sapulpa. Don't expect a let down here. The Tigers are fired up and have two dates circled on the calendar. October 3rd Muskogee comes to Broken Arrow and October 10th the Tigers travel to Jenks. That game could be for a district title. But don't expect Muskogee to roll over. These two teams scrimmaged each other in pre-season and in coach Hennesey's words "it was a blood bath, both teams beat on each other for a while with no one getting a real advantage." The rest of the rankings are as follows; 2 - Norman North 3 - Midwest City 4 - Union 5 - Jenks 6 - Edmond Santa Fe 7 - Putnam City North 8 - Enid 9 - Mustang 10 - Muskogee 11- Owasso 12 - Edmond Memorial 13 - Westmoore 14 - Yukon 15 - Bartlesville 16 - Sand Springs 17 - Lawton 18 - Memorial 19 - Lawton Ike 20 - Stillwater
