Historic win for Southmoore

September 12, 2008 is a day that the Southmoore football program will never forget. It is the day that the Sabercats won their first game in school history in just their second game as a program. It's even sweeter doing it against city rival Westmoore. Southmoore beat the Jaguars 28-20. Southmoore's Kyuann Thompson contributed a couple of touchdowns and the Sabercats' defense shutdown two Westmoore offensive drives in the final five minutes to capture the memorable win. The Sabercats improved to 1-1 after losing in their first ever game a week ago to Edmond Memorial. Westmoore had controlled the Moore War the past decade, but now with Soutmoore joining the fray, it is a different story. Southmoore has a chance to win the city title in its first year when it plays Moore on Oct. 31. Westmoore dropped to 1-1. In other notable scores: Norman North 26, Muskogee 15 Norman North backs up its top ranking in Class 6A and gets some revenge against its nemesis the past couple of years. Tuttle 49, Kingfisher 7 Tuttle just destroyed its rival. These two teams usually play close games, but Tuttle dominated on offense and defense. Putnam City North 34, Putnam City 7 The Panthers ran over, through and around their rivals. Running back Josh Booker had a big game and the PC North defense shut down the Pirates running game. Edmond Santa Fe 21, Edmond Memorial 12 Santa Fe wins the city title after sweeping its Edmond rivals. Santa Fe beat North a week ago and hung on late to beat Memorial on Friday. Bishop Kelley 15, Bishop McGuinness 10 McGuinness has started a new streak, this time it's a losing streak. After having their 28-game winning streak snapped a week ago to Guthrie, the Fighting Irish lost their second straight game of the season. Tulsa Kelley snapped a four-game losing streak to its rival. McGuinness has lost both regular season games this year, but both have been to Class 5A ranked teams. Heritage Hall 31, Weatherford 19 Class 2A Heritage Hall played an opponent two classes higher and still came out with a win. The Chargers beat Class 4A's Weatherford to prove that they are one of the best teams in the area, regardless of class.
