Westmoore may look West

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

According to The Oklahoman, a hip injury to Westmoore quarterback Jordan Meers has temporarily sidelined the senior and could cause him to miss the Moore War on Sept. 5. Meers hurt his hip in a scrimmage last week against Edmond Santa Fe after pump-faking a throw and juking a defender. He was untouched by the defender but fell to the ground. An exact time for his return has not been determined, but Westmoore coach Mike Whaley said, "It will probably cost him some playing time." Westmoore opens with traditional rival Moore and plays new intra-city school Southmoore on Sept. 12. Regardless of whether Meers will be available for either game, Whaley has moved Stanley West from the secondary to quarterback. "We will go with Stanley, who has been starting at corner for us and played some wide receiver last year," Whaley said of the junior. "We'll slide him over and go from there." The Jaguars will travel to Jenks for a scrimmage Thursday against Enid, Edmond Santa Fe and the host Trojans. The scrimmage against the top-caliber Class 6A competition will no doubt test West. "We feel like our guys get a good baptism by fire," Whaley said. "The Moore War is an exciting deal, and it's hard to simulate in practice. But going against these type of teams will help get us ready."
