Large East Rallies for 8-4 Victory at Baseball All-State Game

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Jenks' Mark Ginther crushed a two-run home run to left field during the fifth inning to help rally the Large East to an 8-4 win over the Large West Monday evening at the large-school All-State Baseball Game at Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. Ginther, who has signed to play at Oklahoma State, was drafted in the 48th round (1,444th overall) of the 2008 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. Ginther's shot came with the game tied at 3-3 and two outs. The East scored four runs in the inning. Helping Ginther was high school teammate Dallas Beeler, who came through with three hits and also knocked in a run. Mannford's Caleb Bushyhead helped spark the comeback during the fifth when he delivered a two-out RBI single. Bushyhead finished with two hits. Cascia Hall's Denny Clement tossed a pair of shutout innings in the sixth and seventh innings to finish off the West. The East collected 12 hits, compared to seven for the West. Owasso's Brian Flynn, a Wichita State signee and 18th round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox, was the starting pitcher. In the small-school game, catcher Cameron Mann of Tupelo broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning with a RBI single to lift the East to a 3-2 victory. Red Oak's Justin Knight earned the save by throwing two scoreless innings. The East ended with a total of nine hits, while the West had four. The West scored its only two runs during the home-half of the first.
