Washington the favorite in 2A-3

Thursday, July 24, 2008

District 2A-3 The Prediction: 1. Washington 2. Bridge Creek 3. Crooked Oak 4. Lindsay 5. Hobart 6. Comanche 7. Frederick 8. Riverside What you need to know: Despite moving up to Class 2A this season, Washington is still the team to beat after an 11-3 season in Class A last year. Washington made it to the semifinals, losing to eventual champion Okeeene. Bridge Creek, which went 10-2 last year returns a number of solid players, so the Bobcats should be a factor in not just the district, but the state playoffs. Player to watch: Kenneth Garrett, Crooked Oak. The 6-5, 280-pound senior has more than 10 sacks each of the past two seasons and is getting a number of Division-I looks. He'll also play on the offensive line. Others to check out: Shane Leiter, Bridge Creek RB(5-8, 165, Sr.); Cory Tallent, Bridge Creek LB (6-1, 220, Sr.); Josh Zimmer, Washington RB (5-10, 205, Sr.); Jordan Lucans, Lindsay RB (6-2, 170, Sr.); Clayton Bennett, Comanche WR(6-4, 165, Sr.); Junior Pesina, Frederick WR (5-8, 155, Sr.); Travis Bish, Hobart DL (6-2, 170, Sr.); Mykeyele Ethelbaugh, Riverside QB (5-8, 165, So.) One game you have to see: Washington at Bethany on Sept. 5 is a great matchup. Both teams will likely be ranked in the top 10 - in their new class, respecitively. Washington was in Class A last year and Bethany was a 2A team a season ago.
