Gotta Love Football Season!!!

Monday, October 1, 2007

The days are getting shorter. The weather is getting cooler. And finally, we are in the heart of football season. Crazed fans across Oklahoma are getting their fix. And what a beginning to the season it has been.

Jenks and Union once again dazzled us with a thrilling overtime finish in MidFirst's 4th Annual Backyard Bowl. The two Southside powerhouses look extremely tough in the early going. With that being said, will anyone ever dethrone them? It has been over 11 years since any school without the name Jenks or Union has sat atop the state's largest class.

HSSTM goes in-depth to find out why no one can seem to knock off the two. If there are some programs who are headed in the right direction in doing so, look no further than Broken Arrow, Owasso and Muskogee. Ron Lancaster is installing his patented system in the southeast school. Patterson takes over an Owasso squad that is building on a semifinal run in 2006. Matt Hennesy is in full-force at Muskogee and with the athletes that are on the field at the Indian Bowl, anything is possible.

Sometimes we get caught up in the frenzy that is Oklahoma football. But softball and volleyball are in full swing as well. The Broken Arrow Lady Tigers are at the top of the softball rankings while Bishop Kelley's volleyball team continues to roll through the competition. And let's not forget the cross country runners tearing up Green Country.

Sit back and enjoy as HSSTM delivers the best monthly high school sports magazine yet again. And don't forget that those of you from the Dallas and Ft. Worth areas will have HSSTM introduced in November. That's right, the HSSTM train is going to Texas and you better get on board before you get left behind,
