The Tulsa Skateboard and BMX scene is alive and well with the 21st Tulsa Skate Park (Riverside) and the new park in Broken Arrow. Plans for a huge park in Mohawk Park is the works as well. Since the mid 80's skateboarding in Tulsa has been a very popular sport. The perception of the skaters since that time has changed, no longer tagged as drop-outs or trouble makers most of the kids are proving to be very talented and great on a skateboard. The same is true with BMX riders. Guys like Mat Hoffman helped pioneer the sport that is accepted as a legitimate sport by mainstream media. With locations like the 21st street Tulsa Parks and the Broken Arrow skate park these guys have a place to ride. New plans have been unveiled for a huge skate park in Mohawk Park, which could draw professional skaters for demos and possibly host competitions.
Guys like Eamon Gallagher and Rance Walker are keeping the skateboarding scene alive. Tyler Yowell and Rickey Burns represent the BMX nation in Oklahoma.
