So your kid loves the game of basketball? He or she has hopes and dreams of being a basketball player in high school or even college?
You, as a parent, want to help them, but you’re not a basketball coach and you’re not sure where to turn. This happens all over the country in many different communities.
As a parent, who do you call? Well, the local recreation program is typically the answer, but once you get involved, you find out a parent is coaching and the first practice typically ends with running laps because of missed free throws.
Does this sound remotely close to your experience? Recreational leagues are a good place to start, and if you get lucky enough to get a coach with experience, it can be a great thing. So there is good that comes from both. But if your player is not getting more experience from somewhere else, they probably won’t make it to the next level.
So what are you going to do to help them?
Well, the real answer is Sports City U Basketball Academy. Is there a perfect solution to help every child? No. Call us at 405-816-hoop and we place your child in our Monday Night Train and Play class.
It is led by coaches who are trained by Sports City U and will provide a professional learning environment. Each coach goes through our clinics and learns all of our fundamentals, so they can teach the game, not just yell from the sideline.
We’ll teach fundamentals - passing, shooting, dribbling, defensive and offensive concepts. The players will spend half of the class working on these skills and the other half scrimmaging in a controlled environment. This allows the players to work on their skills, then allows them to try to apply them in a setting that is not based around winning. Each player learns during the eight-week course by developing scoring and offensive moves.
Once they start to grasp the basics of the game, we send them to a specific class like our nationally known “Art of Shooting.”
Next, we will send your child to our team evaluations. Here we do our best to put all players together with equal ability to form teams. Once placed on a team, the player will be on a journey to success.
There are no perfect situations for all players. We have the best program in the state and maybe the country. We are currently placing more than 90 percent of the players who have graduated from our program into colleges around the country. With that said, basketball does not always work for everyone. However, your goals my not be to play in college. It may be that you just want to make your school team or not be the last one picked on the playground.
Let us try to help.
