Ramey Standlee and his son Lance have seen just about every example of insurance premiums that an automotive insurance company can throw at a driver. The father-and-son tandem have been running Best Insurance for the past three years. Ramey is a retired firefighter and Lance is currently fighting fires for the city of Tulsa. Student drivers are constantly hammered with ridiculous premiums when it comes to auto insurance. And more than likely, the students don't pay the premiums, it's the parents. "The rates for any student are pretty high," said Ramey. "But in reality, a lot of it is justified." "Some studies have shown that half of the student drivers will get into a wreck at one point," Lance said. "So it is very difficult for parents to find good premiums for their children." One way that parents can ensure a lower premium is a high GPA for the student. Good grades also work for helping kids get into college and earn scholarships, in case we forget about that. "If a student makes good grades, you will definitely see a drop in their insurance premium," Ramey said. Along with good grades, parents can also see a drop in premiums when a student has taken driving classes or safety classes. Driver's Education has always been looked upon as a tedious course for kids who are anxious to get their license, but the course helps immensely. Other schools like Oklahoma Driving School (918-622-6500) and other defensive driving schools are a big help in paying high premiums. "If parents take the proper precautions in getting their kids the best auto insurance premium, then it saves them a lot of money," Ramey said. "It is the responsibility of the parents in making sure that their children are appropriately insured. We have seen so many cases of hit-n-runs and that has a lot to do with the fact that many drivers aren't insured." When this advice is coupled with the ability of Best Insurance in getting the best rate possible, there is no better option. Ramey's father, Leon, spent 55 years in the insurance business and has past his knowledge down to his son and grandson. Which is what makes Best Insurance like a hometown customer insurance agent.
