Suburban drops Urban 6-3

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

Friday's Jim Thorpe All-Star Football game proved to be a defensive struggle from start to finish. Suburban All-Star defensive back Katero Reynolds returned an interception 56 yards for a touchdown during the second quarter to lead the Suburban to a 6-3 victory over the Urban All-Stars at the East Side Sports Complex. Reynolds, a Broken Arrow standout, picked off the pass after the ball was tipped by a teammate and rallied his team from a 3-0 deficit. The Urban team had a golden opportunity to score points in the second half but was turned away after electing to go for a first down rather than kicking a field goal. Booker T. Washington's Casey Williams returned a punt and got inside the Suburban red zone to put Urban in a great scoring opportunity. The only Urban points were provided from Rogers' kicker Lloyd Barnes in the opening quarter of play as Barnes booted a 43-yard field goal. Edison running back Kenny King provided a bulk of the offense on the drive to set up the Barnes field goal. Urban gave itself another chance for points late in the game after Lincoln Christian quarterback Dillon Wagnon hooked up with teammate Brooklyn Fox (East Central) for a 52-yard pass play, but the Suburban defense stood strong once again and held on for the win.
