Bishop McGuinness' season comes to end with loss to Sallisaw

SALLISAW — It took a miraculous play in the final minute last year for Bishop McGuinness to survive Sallisaw.

Sallisaw quarterback Matt Oberste made sure there wouldn’t be nearly as much drama this time.

Despite a huge game by running back LaRone Richardson, the Irish lost 20-14 to Sallisaw on Friday night in Class 4A state quarterfinal at Lattimore Stadium.

Facing third-and-nine at its own 11 with two minutes left, Oberste scrambled for 14 yards to put the Black Diamonds into the semifinals against Star Spencer at a neutral site next week.
