One of the nation’s top junior volleyball players has seen all she needs to see to make her college choice.

Desiree Elliott of Cy-Woods (Cypress,Texas) High School verbally committed to LSU after taking a visit to the Baton Rouge campus last weekend.

“I was at the game this weekend and couldn’t believe the atmosphere,” she said. “It was incredible. I love the coaches and the programs, so I’m really happy about my decision.”

Elliott plays middle-blocker for the Wildcats and will be a three-year starter by the end of her career. She was named the district’s Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore, in the school’s first varsity season.

“She defines excellence, which means she combines joy, motivation, respect and humor, making everyone around her better,” Woods coach Ashley Alfinger said. “She, along with this whole team, is a coaches’ dream .They make each other better.

Elliott has played club volleyball for the Texas Tornadoes for years and has always been ahead of her time.

“I remember we were in Florida playing a summer tournament and the one of the college coaches approached her about where she was going to school,” father Joseph Elliott laughs. “We had to tell him that she was in the eighth grade.”

Her brother Michael Elliott starts on Harding College's football team as a freshman.
