Houston TD Club announces preseason honors

Former Houston Oilers and Tennessee Titans lineman Bruce Matthews will be honored at 7 p.m., Wed., Aug. 13, at the JW Marriott, 5150 Westheimer, during the IW Marks Touchdowner of the Year Dinner. Matthews, who is a recent NFL Hall of Fame inductee, also will introduce the All-Greater Houston Preseason High School Football Team. Last year's Touchdowner winner, Jerry LeVias, will present the award to Matthews. The Touchdowner Award has been given annually since 1966 for extraordinary contributions and outstanding achievements reflecting honor and sportsmanship to football over a lengthy period of time. Past winners include Jess Neely, Kyle Rote, Darrell Royal, Bear Bryant, Bobby Layne, Roger Staubach, Frank Broyles, Bill Yeoman, Jack Pardee, Tom Landry, Grant Teaff, Bud Adams, Earl Campbell, Spike Dykes, Ken Hatfield, Elvin Bethea, Hayden Fry, Mack Brown and Jerry LeVias. Tickets are $45 each. Tables are $450 (regular table), $500 (bronze sponsorship), $1,000 (silver sponsorship), $1,500 (gold sponsorship) and $5,000 (platinum sponsorship).
