Just five years ago, the Twin Valley Ice Hockey Club was formed on a small farm pond in Elverson. That year, 15 skaters laced up the boots and went on to capture its first of four consecutive Berks Scholastic Ice Hockey League (BSIHL) championships.
The club, which is recognized by the Twin Valley School District, the athletic department, and featured in the yearbook, is now 80 skaters strong. This year, the Club joined the Inter-County Scholastic Ice Hockey League (ICSIHL), with teams in the elementary, middle school, Junior Varsity and Varsity divisions.
The varsity team posted a record of 6-15-1, a rather respectable showing out of a whopping 26-team field. According to Club president Tom Philips, most of the hockey clubs skating in the Inter-County League have more than a decade of experience under their belts.
The Twin Valley varsity graduates only two seniors, so the Club is hopeful that this young group of skaters, combined with its excellent middle-school and elementary programs, will someday compete for the Flyer’s Cup, the area’s equivalent of the Stanley Cup.
