Fern Creek Traditional High School, Track Dedication
The staff and students at Fern Creek dedicated their new running track to Charles Melton Ruter on August 29th. Mr. Ruter is shown here on the right with his wife and Fern Creek Alumni Association Director Ted Boehm. After serving in the Navy during World War II, Mr. Ruter taught at a number of local high schools, including Fern Creek, and worked for the Jefferson County Board of Education for a total of 35 years. In that time, he coached basketball and baseball and taught English and journalism. He also had a long career as a track and field official and administrator, including serving as Field Referee during the 1984 Olympic Games and Officials Coordinator for the 1996 Olympic Games. He is a member of 11 Sports Halls of Fame.
