Demeatric Unseld is helping change perceptions about Doss football one snap at a time. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound senior quarterback passed for 1,500 yards last season—the Dragons were fifth in Class 5A in passing (185.6 yards per game) during the regular season—as Doss finished 7-5, its best record in the new millennium. "We're trying to change their minds about certain things. They're used to running away from teams, but we want them to stay and fight," second-year Doss coach LaKunta Farmer says. And Unseld leads the way in that regard. "Demeatric is a really smart, really enthusiastic player," Farmer says. "He's very aggressive, everything he does he does in an aggressive manner. Say, if he's running the ball, he's not going to go down easy. He's always full speed. "Plus he's willing to learn. I think that's the most important thing about him. We threw a lot at him last year, and he did well...He likes to get things done. He's loves to win. He's a winner and he's got a winner's mentality." The Dragons should have a good chance to improve on their win total of last season with Unseld and playmakers like receiver Cameron Clemons and running back JacQuan Persley around him. "If it's third down and the ball's in my hands I can beat you by running the ball, handing it off, or passing it," Unseld says. And his goals for this season? "Go out with a bang (a state championship)," Unseld says. That would definitely change perceptions about Doss football.
