A few days ago, I went though a drive-through for a quick lunch. The young woman at the pick-up window spotted the magazine logo on my shirt and said, “I want to be in your magazine!”
I loved hearing that! It tells me that the athletes view an appearance in the magazine as a symbol of their achievement—a way to recognize their success that motivates them to achieve their best. This young lady told me she plays three sports, so she’ll have a few opportunities to grace our pages.
Each new athlete I meet working on VYPE High School Sports Magazine inspires me—inspires me with enthusiasm, with achievements and with exciting dreams. I enjoy their spirit, their stories, and the anticipation of great things that lay ahead of them.
And the adults who work with these kids never cease to amaze me with their dedication and the joy they find in sports. They do it all—work long days, late nights and early mornings—because they love it. They love the kids; they love the sports; they love the life. I have not met a coach yet who seems to see his or her position as “just a job.”
Our mission is to share the stories and successes of these inspiring individuals with the community. The joy and enthusiasm of these players and coaches is infectious. If we can impart that enthusiasm to you through VYPE and VYPE.com, we’ll be successful in our mission.
And to my friend at Wendy’s and all the other high school athletes out there who want to have their names and photos in VYPE, I’ll be watching for you! I truly hope each and every one of you achieves that goal.
