Providence's Trey Pfund shot a 1-under-par 70 to win the Indiana Boys' State Junior qualifier this past Thursday at Quail Crossing in Boonville.

Pfund, who holed two birdies and a bogey, advanced to the 83rd annual Boys' State Junior Championship at Purdue University's Kampen Golf Course on Aug. 4-8.

Providence's Andrew Lobeck shot a 74 and Jeffersonville's Matthew Thompson had a 76. Both guys also qualified at Boonville and will play in the Aug. 4-8 tourney.

Congratulations guys and good luck this August!

Also, The 2008-09 sports schedule in Indiana will begin with the first official day of girls' golf practice on Aug. 1 and the start of regular-season matches on Aug. 4. Good luck to all the girls taking part in fall golf this year!

All other fall sports in Indiana (boys' tennis, cross country, soccer, volleyball and football) will start practices on Aug. 4. Contact football practices will be allowed on Aug. 6. Regular-season games will begin on Aug. 18 for all sports except football. Football practices will begin on Aug. 22.
