Ben Richter has built an impressive resume in three short years at Kentucky Country Day. He plays multiple sports and is involved in several other activities.

As an incoming senior, Richter plays football, baseball and basketball. He is also the student body president and maintains a 4.0 grade point average.

Richter has kept up with so much because he believes it may be his only chance.

“Everything I'm doing now may be my only opportunity to do so much and be involved in so many things,” says Richter.

He also enjoys the camaraderie and competition of the sports he plays. He likes the battle and work of football, the individuality of baseball and the competitiveness of basketball. Each of the three sports provides something different.

“Coaches are very understanding with all the different options, academics still come first. They like to know I'm working hard in other aspects,” says Richter.

Richter's brother Zach, who played baseball and graduated from Manual in '06, has really kept him motivated and in line. Ben sees Zach as a role model and friend.

Not only an athlete, Richter has received individual academic awards each year in high school, including The Wade H. Brown, Jr. award as a sophomore, given for “high academic achievement, devotion to KCD through activities, integrity and irrepressible wit.” He also won a state debate team honor and sang a solo in the KCD production of “Oklahoma.”

Richter is undecided about college, and knows there is still a lot to do during the year. He hopes to stay as involved as he has so far and expects to have a busy and exciting senior year.
